"Imagination is more important than knowledge" - Albert Enstein

Geoffrey crozier

Artist Statement

“My work is a direct result of the inspirations and fascinations rooted in my rural, work-oriented way of life. The tools we use to provide food and create goods, humanity’s capacity to become a master—seemingly a god within their crafts and trades—and the magnificence of the natural world that surrounds me all inform my practice. These inspirations are born into glass in the form of pristine glass knives, intricate flowers, fine tableware,  vases, etc., as I continue to explore the possibilities of one of earth’s most perplexing and romantically enticing materials: glass.”

Geoffrey Crozier’s glasswork bridges the gap between artistic investigation and master artisan practice. Drawing from the Venetian school of thought, his work is characterized by deep, rich colours; a strong emphasis on pattern and surface; a sustained interest in light; and a commitment to craft developed through years of practice and meticulous attention to detail.

These works illustrate Geoff’s interest in perfecting specific glass objects while simultaneously improvising upon the intended use of the medium. The knives are indicative of his practice of translating functional objects into ornamentation, while the flowers serve as a porthole into an unseen world where fiction and narrative come to life.
